Enhancing undergraduate midwifery: using drug and alcohol baby simulators in education

Background In the UK, simulation in midwifery education mostly relates to developing clinical skills such as managing obstetric emergencies. However, there is minimal use of neonate simulators educating student midwives on impact teratogens fetal development. There also limited research using neonatal a creative pedagogical tool undergraduate education. Objectives The two main objectives this study were ascertain whether students could recognise physical early postnatal period while interacting with and explore understood their role future when working pregnant women who may be misusing substances. Methods This qualitative involved Level 4 from south England. A taught session protecting unborn environment was provided tasked interact low fidelity alcohol syndrome medium drug affected simulators. Student responses group activities, considering about fetus newborn baby, collected. Results useful for enhancing knowledge around teratogenesis impact. Conclusions Neonatal can used engage enhance learning knowledge.
